X-Tray Techincian

Education, Health, Work No Comments »

Let’s say one day one of your children came back from school telling you that they want to study to become a x-ray technician. Will you freak out? I think I would. I do not want my child to die earlier than me due to radiation exposure.

Well, I am sure there will be safety precaution for x-ray technician since they will work 40 hour weeks. The use of shielding and diagnostic technologies, along with stringent recording and regulation of cumulative exposure, has all but resolved the radiation exposure. And the pay is not bad at all; x-ray technician can earn more than $55,400.

Missing Mommy’s Office

Belle, Clarissa, Work No Comments »

Since I don’t work full day anymore, especially on Saturday, my girls have no chance following me to the office and moving around the office furniture!

From time to time, they will ask me, “Mommy where is your office?”

I guess they miss the spacious office that their Mommy has, playing with my stationary messing up my desk and going up and down the stair case.

Succession Plan

Family, Work No Comments »

I have done my succession plan months before I tender my resignation. Teaching them all they need to know to take over my “one leg kick all job” before I retired from the working world to be a SAHM which I am greatly needed there; at home with my children. Unfortunately, they took my training lightly thinking that I wasn’t serious with what I told them. Now I have to remind them not to call me between 3pm-5pm coz that’s my children’s nap time and mine too. I am enjoying my life now. :D

Happy New Year!

Barnabas, Belle, Business, Clarissa, Family, Parenting, Work 1 Comment »

Well, it is not so Happy for me to begin with.

All my children are coughing. Barnabas is still feverish.

I am at work. Not because I am very hardworking, I am actually but because my boss said this year, New Year is no longer the company’s public holiday.

Hubby’s permanent staff resigned yesterday. So…the children and myself will see less of their daddy again.

Am thinking to tender my resignation by end of this month instead of after CNY. Still considering.

On the positive side, I thank God for all the blessings, the good health, the good food, the good home, the good toys and everything that He has provided and going to provide. He is truly Jehovah Jireh, God the Provider.

I am actually looking forward to this year. Many exiting things are going to happen and challenging too.

I really thank God that my Belle has been asking about Jesus, and why he died on the cross after watching the video clip of We Are The Reason in my other blog. And we have a new preacher at home, “Daddy, you cannot do that, Jesus says you must love.” Then whatever wrong things that we say or do, she will quote “Jesus says…” No wonder Jesus loves the little children.

Clarissa is still VERY CHALLENGING even though we give her more attention now.

Barnabas is mumbling more often. Hope he can talk more words soon. Come to think of it…Take you time, Bas. hehehe…

Well, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! :D

PHR Certificate

Education, Work No Comments »

Even though I plan to resign and not thinking about going back to the working world after that, I still subscribes to JobStreet just to “kaypoh” to see what type of job that suits my qualification in the market. Well, I need to know, just in case I really the money and have no choice but to go back to work.

I noticed that most of the relevant jobs for me require HR cert. which I do not have and with only 20 employees in my company, I know nothing about the real Human Resource. If situation requires it, I think I might need to at least get the phr certificate. With it, chances of me getting selected will be higher.

Work from Home

Computers & Internet, Menceceh, Parenting, Work No Comments »

Thank God it is holiday now and my office is closed till Thursday. If not, I will badly need my office PC at home because all my 3 children are sick and I can’t go to office. I understand that RemotePC offers secure remote access to windows PCs from anywhere via internet. With RemotePC, I can now access my office PC from anywhere in the world as long as there is internet access at that location.

This is how it works, from my computer, I can view the desktop of the RemotePC enabled computer (my office PC) and using my computer’s keyboard and mouse launch applications, read emails and edit documents as though I am directly working on that remote computer (my office PC). Quite simple ya. I may try their 30 days free trial. :D

Boots

Menceceh, Work No Comments »

I mentioned in my previous post that Belle calls the sports shoe, Boots.

boot

Belle, look, this is a Boot. :P

Hubby has been telling me that he wanted a boot for quite sometime but I don’t see the need for him to have one. Boots are worn mostly for safety purposes. If you are working in a pastor in church or an owner of an internet cafe, what can possibly hurt your feet? The church members accidentally step on your foot when you pray for them? The mouse drop on your foot? or Maybe when a customer lost a game and angrily push the CPU from the table and it drops on your foot? :P

It is a different scenario if you are working in my factory. There are cartons of lubricants, pails drums, and other heavy equipment that might hurt your foot if it falls. I purchase safety boots for the worker every year. I wanted to look for better supplier with higher quality boots so that a boot can last longer than a year.

I came across CopShoes.com. They do sell safety boots but mostly for police and military boots. If you are in the force, you can get your Rocky Boots and Bates Boots from this site. You can be assured of their quality and competitive price.

Mommy Always Forget

Computers & Internet, Menceceh, Work No Comments »

After giving birth to 3 children, I become more and more forgetful. Some says, the children take some of mommy’s memory away but I think when you have 3, you have more things on your mind. Instead of thinking about one child’s need, now I have 3 children’s need to think about.

At work, many times my colleague has to remind me whether I have done the backup for the companies file on the computer and many times I forgot! Thank God there is Online Backup like IBackup. With it, I can schedule regular online backups. IBackup for Windows makes it really easy to automatically select critical user data such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, My Documents, Financial Files and other office files with file selection wizards. For those who are not a “computer geek”, IBackup has easy-to-use wizards for interactive backups, restores and backup/restore scheduling.

Belle Will Blog

Belle, Computers & Internet, Parenting, Work No Comments »

On the way back from kindy yesterday, Belle was singing. I sang along with her but I got it wrong. She scolded me…”Mommy, you don’t know. You didn’t go to school.” Well, I told her that I have completed my schooling and now need to work to earn money. So I told her that one day she will need to work too. “I don’t want, Mommy. I shy.” Shy again! Then she told me that she does not need to work because she has money in the bank. I told her that she needs to work in order to have money in the bank.

Somehow the conversation went to email and blogging.

“Mommy, when I grow up I can check email and blog like Mommy?”

“Yes”

“I can blog too???”

“Yes”

“Mommy, why you blog?”

“Mommy writes about you, Clarissa and Barnabas in Mommy’s blog and sometimes people pay Mommy money to blog about other things.”

“Mommy, next time when I grow up, I want to blog too. Then I can have money to put in the bank.”

Oh NO! Since she is always shy, maybe she will just hide behind the computer and earn her living. :P

Why Does Mommy Need To Work

Belle, Parenting, Work 1 Comment »

Belle always asks me, “Mommy, why do you need to go to work?” Even though I explain many times to her that if I don’t work, she would not be able to wear the clothes she is wearing now, play the toys she is throwing away now, have plenty of books to color, or even go to school. She prefers me to stay at home. I think that would only be possible if her daddy can earn enough to afford us a holiday in Hawaii and staying in Maui Condo. hehe.

I am blessed to have my mom around all the time when I was growing up. She is a housewife from the first day she married my dad. My dad’s preference even though we are not rich but we have sufficient food, clothing and shelter. However I can’t do that for my children because the cost of living now is way too high compared to those days.

The world’s most curious company

Education, Work No Comments »

When I was in still studying in the university, I wanted so much to be a researcher because I am always curious about the things around me, especially people’s behavior. You see, I majored in Anthropology and Sociology. I learn about society and behavior. Synovate, a market research company was not form by the time I graduated. If not, I would join them and be part of the “curiosity” team.

Plug & Plays VoIP phones

Business, Computers & Internet, Work No Comments »

When I first heard about VoIP, I thought it must be complicated like software to install. But it seems that is there such thing as plug & plays VoIP phones. This convenience is offered by Xpander VoIP phone systems. It is designed to be the most flexible and user friendly business phone systems on earth. As long as there is broadband and web control panels, there you can enjoy the VoIP phone system. It will sure save a lot of money calling oversea and different state with VoIP phone system. I wonder whether my boss will consider getting one for the company.

Cheap Hotels from HotelClub

Holiday, Work No Comments »

hotel

Have you heard of HotelClub? I received email (company’s email) from them quite frequent updating us about their latest deals because I registered my lady boss as their member. Few years back when they decided to buy an apartment in Melbourne, they travel to Melbourne quite frequent. As their Secretary, my job is to look for the best and affordable hotel for them to stay in Melbourne. I did my Google search to look for Melbourne Hotels and I found HotelClub. I booked a hotel room for them through HotelClub. They love the place and have been returning there until they own apartment is ready.

The reason I registered as a member is because you will get cash rebate, they call it Member Dollars. For every booking you make you will get the Member Dollars and SAVE on your future bookings with HotelClub. You can also earn the Member by referring friends and colleagues to HotelClub.

My boss is very particular when it comes to hotel room especially the cleanliness. So I can assure you that you won’t see cockroaches running around in the hotels and apartment listed in Hotel Club.

So if you or your boss is planning to visit Melbourne or any part of the world and looking for cheap hotels, I would recommend you to look it up at HotelClub. You won’t be disappointed.

The Girls Goes to Office

Belle, Clarissa, Education, Parenting, Work 1 Comment »

Past 2 Fridays, I brought Belle and Clarissa to office after school. Kindy ends at 11.30am on Friday. Normally my dad will fetch them and bring them back to my mom’s but since my mom is not around, I fetch them and bring them to my office until my lunch break at 12.30pm.

I was so worried that my boss won’t like it coz they treat the office furniture like their own. Shifting them, pushing them around and standing on them but that God my bosses are quite understanding and as they too have 4 children.

More Increment More Toys

Belle, Finance, Work No Comments »

Because of 360 degree feedback, I got better increment this year. Yes, just got my increment this month. My company’s appraisal is every middle of the year, not end of the year. My girls are very happy to know that their mommy got more salary.

“Mommy, why do you have to go you work?”
“If Mommy doesn’t work, Mommy will have no money. Meaning, no money to buy you toys.”

“Belle, Mommy’s boss increased Mommy’s salary!!!”
“Mommy, you can buy a lot of toys for me now?” :D
“Yes, but you must behave yourself and be a good girl. If you are naughty, no toys for you.”
“Ok, Mommy. I love you so much Mommy!”

Radar Detectors

Work No Comments »

Without fail, my boss will receive speed summon every time he travels outstation. Driving a Mercedes or a Lotus, you won’t feel that you have gone over the speed limit. Furthermore the highway speed limit here is only 110km/h. Certain stretch it is only 90km/h. If he wants to save money from paying the speed summon, I would suggest to him to invest in getting radar detectors. Hopefully after using it, I don’t have to write appeal letter for him anymore to request for reduced summon amount.

Work from home made easier

Work No Comments »

During my maternity leave, I am required to work from home with no extra allowance. :( The boss personal driver will come to my house to hand me documents and emails to write or reply. Even the payroll I have to do from home. At that time I didn’t know about online file sharing. If not working from home will be easier and faster. Furthermore, with Driveway (http://www.driveway.com) I can straight away edit the shared documents directly with a single click from desktop instead of having to edit, save and email it back.

With Driveway too, we can send large files for read only by using Driveway’s ‘Parkit’ links for files up to 500MB in size! This is great, need to get my suppliers and customers to download this free software so that there won’t be any problem sending and receiving large files especially those with pictures.

Scrub Nurse

Family, Health, Work No Comments »

My sister in law, Shavina’s mother was a scrub nurse. Scrub nurse is the nurse that assists the doctor in Operation Theater. Yes, they witness doctors cut opened patient’s body! I asked her whether she fainted before when she sees a lot of blood and all those gory stuff in our body. She told me in the beginning she felt a lil bit uneasy but no fainting. She must be very brave. If myself, don’t know vomited and fainted how many times already!

Next year, Shavina is going to nursery and that sister in law plans to start working as a scrub nurse again. She did not returned her medical uniforms when she resigned from the hospital because she plans to continue working there. Didn’t want her uniform to be worn by other nurses! :)

Cash Advance

Work No Comments »

The company that I am attached to now, gives out cash advance on every 15th of the month. This is more for the production workers so that they can have some cash to spend before their salary at the end of the month. Our salary will be paid in cheque. So, in order to get some cash, we have to go to the bank to withdraw from the ATM machine. I took this advantage to get some cash to give my mom for babysitting my children and to buy milk. Save my time traveling to town to withdraw cash from the ATM. :)

My name is Michelle but I am half of Michelle J. Paltani in terms of achievement in our career. She co-founded IPITV magazine in 2000, has more than 6 years experience in marketing, media and in various publishing disciplines. In 1999, I graduated from USM and she from Purdue. I acquired degree in Anthropology & Sociology with a minor in Business Management, she acquired a degree in Small Business Management with a minor in English. We are quite similar in terms of the education that we received but she is much more successful in her career.

Due her hard work, the magazine’s has been recognized with awards locally, regionally and nationally. IPITV magazine is one of only a handful of media publication companies in South Florida to win two South Florida Travel Publication Awards – the highest award in the travel media industry – in a single year. IPITV magazine has also been featured as one of the most accredited travel information magazines in the National Travel & Tourism Guide for Media Publications.

Fax Paper

Work No Comments »

Every morning when I reach office, the fax machine will sure be out of paper. The fax that came in is all junk to me. Mostly from companies advertising their products. Training courses, discount office supplies, lab equipments, maintenance supplies, new and second car for sale, computer and many more. So what do I do with them? I don’t throw them away. I use them as rough paper and sometimes to put my nasi lemak over it, to prevent my table from getting oily. ;)

Carton Boxes

Family, Work No Comments »

My eldest brother in law is going to move again. He is a Palm Oil Estate Manager so moving from one estate to another is a norm. My SIL did mention to me that the cost of packaging is quite expensive and the company only provides certain budget for it. If you go over the budget, you have to pay from your own wallet.

So, in order to save, she requested me to get some rejected carton boxes for her. Our rejects are mostly due to changing of design, so the cartons are in a very good condition. One carton easily cost RM2.50 per piece and moving the whole household item requires more than just 10 boxes. Since I am working in manufacturing company that uses a lot of carton boxes, it is not a problem to get some rejected ones for her. Ok! I must go and ask the storekeeper to put some at my car now, in case I forget. :)

Accomodations in Melbourne

Family, Holiday, Menceceh, Work No Comments »

My boss daughters are studying in Monash, Melbourne. Before they bought an apartment there, at Swanston Street, I used to help them to search and book hotel when they need to go there to settle the apartment purchase. I wish I know about CheaperThanHotels.com.au, Melbourne hotels and Melbourne accommodation directory. All you need from small, boutique hotels to luxury Hotels in Melbourne, from budget to long stay accommodation or self-catering serviced apartments (or condominium holiday rentals) and all the way up to 5 star, luxury hotel accommodation, you can find it there. I wonder whether I can put their apartment for rent there when they leave for UK to study next year?

I had one day experience as a telemarketer before. I was on a job hunt after graduating from the local university and I chance upon this job on the newspaper. Sounds interesting. So I gave it a try rather than waste my time waiting for offer letter from other companies that I sent my application letter. The moment I step in the office, I was given a list of companies to call! Well, I did not get even one lead on that day and my jaw was so tired of talking. I quit. I don’t like talking so much! :P

Save on phone calls

Business, Makemeknown, Work No Comments »

The company that I am currently working at is very calculative and always try to find ways to reduce cost. One of the ways is by limiting our phone access. We can’t dial out to personal numbers. All our phones are with code to customers and suppliers numbers only. If they have branches, I am sure they will use the VoIP Small Business Phone Systems. With VoIP Small Business Phone Systems, small businesses with office branches scattered across the country can share the same phone system on the same private list of extensions across all branch offices equally. With Xpander Communications, costs are drastically reduced due to unlimited free service & support as well as improved long distance and international calling plans. I am sure soon this company is going to use VoIP phone systems.

Based on the Glossy Blue theme.
