Xylophone
Belle, Education October 13th, 2008When Belle first received her spelling list she got so worried when she saw “Xylophone”. That is the longest word in the list. Well, Xylophone will only be tested some where in November but she started to worry now! Telling me that it is so difficult and she definitely can’t get it right.
I just told her what we will learn that word when the time comes but hubby suggested that I teach her now. Let her get over her worries. And it works! Now she not only can spell Xylophone but she can spell Microphone, Telephone and Handphone!
Here is how I do it. I break the word to 4…Xy-lo-ph-one. She has no problem with “lo” and “one” coz I told her that “one” spells like number 1. Once she got “xy” and “ph”. I get her to spell “Xylo” and “phone”. Then later combine both syllabus and she got “Xylophone”. She was so happy. No more spelling obstacles, no more worries. ![]()

miche,
You’re smart for breaking up the words. I think I did that when I was having spelling test too. hehe.
And it’s good that Belle is worried. At least, she understands that she needs to study hard.
