Never Forget Your Girlfriends

- a forwarded email

A young wife sat on a sofa in Bukit Timah on a hot humid day, drinking iced tea with her Mother. As they talked about life, about marriage, about the responsibilities of life and the obligations of adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her glass thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance upon her daughter.

“Don’t forget your girlfriends,” she advised, swirling the tealeaves to the bottom of her glass. They’ll be more important as you get older. No matter how much you love your husband, no matter how much you love the children you’ll have, you are still going to need girlfriends. Remember to go places with them now and then; do things with them. And remember that girlfriends” are not only your friends, but your sisters your daughters, and other relatives too. You’ll need other women. Women always do.”

‘What a funny piece of advice,’ the young woman thought. ‘Haven’t I just gotten married? Haven’t I just joined the couple-world? I’m now a married woman, for goodness sake, a grownup, not a young girl who needs girlfriends! Surely my husband and the family we’ll start will be all I need to make my life worthwhile!’

But she listened to her Mother; she kept contact with her girlfriends and made more each year. As the years tumbled by, one after another, she gradually came to understand that her Mom really knew what she was talking about. As time and nature work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman, girlfriends are the mainstays of her life. After 50 years of living in this world, here is what I’ve learned:

Times passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Love waxes and wanes.
Hearts break.
Careers end.
Jobs come and go.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Men don’t call when they say they will.

BUT girlfriends are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you.

A girlfriend is never farther away than needing her can reach. When you have to walk that lonesome valley, and you have to walk it for yourself, your girlfriends will be on the valley’s rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley’s end.

Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you. Or come in and carry you out. My daughter, sisters, mother, sisters-in-law, mother-in-law, aunties, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends bless my life! The world wouldn’t be the same without them, and neither would I.

When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other. Every day, we need each other still.

- come to think of it, I do not have many close knitted girlfriend whom I can trust. I was hurt many times during my schoolings days that made it difficult for me to be open to others. :(

Politicians

I went out for lunch with my 2 bosses and a supplier from Lubrizol, Spore just now in one famous restuarant in Malim Jaya. As we were ordering our dishes, a politician came in, both my boss knew him but pretend not to see him (they are not the ampu type). Other people in the restaurant went to shake his hand. There is one guy from my opposite table which I knew him since sec school also went to shake his hand. As we were chatting over the food. The politician saw my boss and came over to our table and greeted him instead. My boss introduce him to us. The guy from the opposite table was like “hah! who are you ler?” From what I know, my boss is very rich, rich enough that he does not need any favor from any politician to get business!

BabyPlus

Bought a device for unborn baby brain stimulation called BabyPlus from Cosway 2 days ago. Cost us RM500.00! Kinda expensive. Hopefully it works. For Annabelle, no BabyPlus, just Mozart and lots of prayer. She turns out as good as those babies that is stimulated by BabyPlus. But with this second pregnancy and with Annabelle around, hardly have time to sit infront of the computer/hi fi to place the headphone to my tummy. With this babyplus, I can bring it to my office and strap it around my tummy. Lets wait and see how my 2nd baby turns out…

Some people are just not meant to chat online or thru sms. Facial expression and body language cannot be displayed. We say something, they understood something else… and people get hurt… If we want to stay friends, better stay away from chatting with them online or thru sms. Sigh…

Mooncake

Mooncake festival is here. Bought a box of mooncake for my parents from Cosway. It cost around RM5.10/pc. My hubby bought a cheaper ones for his family from a sundry shop. Only RM5.80 for 4 pcs. The taste is nicer than the latter. I even let my mom taste one piece. She agreed that it is better than the one I gave her. Moral of the story…Don’t judge the mooncake by it’s price. :) Going to buy somemore of the cheaper ones this coming Friday…

Papa vs Mama

I wonder why most toddler can’t say the word ‘mama’ ? Instead they will go on saying ‘papa papa’ without any difficulty. Maybe there is no need to call ‘mama’ as mama is always around them. Yesterday, my sis-in-law asked my dotdot to pass something to me. From my sis-in-law room, she shouted ‘che-che, nah’. Handing out the stuff to me. My sis-in-law got a surprise! “She called you ‘che-che’?” she asked. hehehe…
I think they can’t pronounce any word that starts with the letter ‘m’. She even call her grandmother ‘pak’ instead of ‘mak’. I wonder how long will this last. She is 16 months old already…

2nd Check Up - 25th week ++

Went to the government clinic for 2nd check-up on Wednesday. Reached there at 12.05pm. Thank God no other pregnant lady was there. Hope the check-up can be completed in 10 mins time. They started by taking my weight. 59kg already. Then went to discharge some urine for the lab to test. When I place my urine at the counter, the lab tech just ignore it. She just sat there and dream away. Well, another nurse took my blood pressure 110/70. Normal. After that another nurse came and told me to go in another room for tummy check up. While flipping thru my red book, she noticed that my hemoglobin result is not there. So when out again to that lab tech and offer her my finger to be pricked. She told me to take a sit first, she got a lot of test to be done. What the heck? What was she doing from just now??? Dreaming that she’s doing the test??? So, I waited patiently for while. Took my blood, runs the hemoglobin test and then I took my red book to the nurse “inside” again. PTL that my hemoglobin level increased to 11.1. Previously it was 10.5, below minimum that is 11. The nurse asked me the usual questionlah. Then fix another appointment on 26th Sept. Check-up done at 12.25pm. 20 mins! Just because of that “Dreamy Lab Tech”.

Based on the Glossy Blue theme.
